Origins of the association
FRIENDS of Vatnajökull Association is a nonprofit organization that was founded on 21st June 2009 as a funding body for Vatnajökull National Park. The role of the association is to raise funds to support research and promotional and educational activities to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the natural phenomenon and the unique natural history this national park has to offer.

The FRIENDS of Vatnajökull Association aims to attract as many members as possible and to be a financially independent association focused mainly on supporting projects that contribute in the fields of research, promotion and education.
